Back to School

so the first week of school was...all sorts of things.

rough, exciting, overwhelming, dramatic

let's bullet point this shall we?

- i'm not at MCC anymore. it's also been a loooong time since i've been to school. i feel stupid ALL THE TIME! i know it's only been one week and i'll get back in the game soon enough but man, can't that just automatically happen??

- making new friends is super awkward and weird. 

- it only seems to rain when i'm walking/bike riding to and from school. FYI sitting in class while completely drenched is very unpleasant.

found this little gem on amazon and while i believe it would keep me nice and dry (and incredibly popular) i didn't buy it.

- my feet are so sad here. i have blisters on my heels, sides of my feet, in between my toes.

i can hardly walk, guys. it's a problem. 

- i'm at school all day until about 2 PM and i haven't quite figured out how to eat lunch yet so i'm starvingggg every day! 

i should probably go to the grocery store and buy some more snackies but i'm also afraid of the grocery store and its prices. 

i was explaining to my sister that we tried buying a broom this week and found out it cost $12 for the broom and another $12 for the dustpan. we agreed that any broom that costs $24 should do all the work for you! agreed??

anyway, i'm hungry.

- please don't hate me for saying this but...i haven't become used to hearing the waves during the night. i'm not a very good sleeper and when you add stormy, super loud waves to the situation it just makes things worse.

i'm so sleepy!

- i really miss my puppy

now on to the good things!

- the view from across the street is unbelievable!

- we finally set foot on the beach!

- i'm getting way better at riding my bike! 

i named my little bike Lorelai because every time i ride it i feel like Lorelai Gilmore the day her Jeep died and she had to ride her bike everywhere.

the similarities are uncanny.

- we went to Giovanni's Shrimp Truck and had some of the best shrimp i have ever EVER had!

it was totally worth the 3 mile bike ride there and 3 miles back!

i can't wait to go again!

so to sum things up, Hawaii is a huge adjustment for me. 

i went from sitting at home all day every day for the past 3 years to having to do all these crazy new scary things!

but all in all, i'm super happy here! i'm super happy to study something that i love in a place that i love!

and i can't wait to do more crazy new scary things every day!

so...remember how i'm moving to hawaii?

yeah...i'm moving to hawaii.

i really don't get tired of saying that, ever!

in fact, matt and i will just randomly look at each other and say "hawaii?"

HAWAII!

ok but seriously i guess i should tell everyone why we're going.

ya know shark week?

ya know how i looooove it more than any other week out of the year?

well one day you will be able to turn on shark week and see MY face!

or at least that's the dream.

i'd also consider being a shark diver in hawaii any day of the week, working for an aquarium possibly as that weirdo that's diving in the large tank and answering kids' questions or...a lottery winner, obviously.

but seriously, i'm going to school at BYU Hawaii for marine biology which means i will be able to learn about oceany things while seriously living on the beach.

it's going to be unbelievable!

there's obviously a lot of  stressful things going on right now with trying to make preparations to move and start school and everything but i have gotten one very important thing out of the way already, where we're gonna live.

i found this perfectly quirky and great place that offers everything we wanted, will let our little pup live there and has views to make all of our friends and family ridiculously jealous.

the absolute hardest part of this moving process so far is getting little puppy Padme ready for the journey.

hawaii is seriously ridiculous about bringing pets into the state.

they've never had rabies there so they make you prove a thousand times over in crazy insane ways that your pet is healthy enough for island living.

and if you don't do every single little thing right they make your pet stay in quarantine for 120 DAYS! 

do you know what my little antisocial dog would do if she had to stay in a quarantine facility for 120 days??

probably commit puppy suicide or something.

and do you know what i would do without her for 120 days??

probably commit people suicide or something.

so we're being extra careful to make sure she can make the trip and move into her new home with zero problems.

it seems like every day i think of something else we have to do before we move and it's ridiculously stressful but luckily i have matt around to remind me of what's really important...

i'm completely slammed with orders right now! it's unbelievable!

so unbelievable, in fact, that i had to lower the hours of my day job so i can have more time for crafting!

living the dream up in hereeee!

i just wanted to take a quick crafting break and share some things with everyone.

first of all, my etsy shop name has changed!

it is now Life Geekery!

as soon as i get ahead on orders i'll be adding new cozy designs to the shop and there might even be a geekery blog full of hi-larious posts from both me and my amazing hubby!

so stay tuned for that!

also, i had sooo many people asking me for the Harry Potter cozy in Nook sizes that i went ahead and made them their very own listing!

and just so you all know i'm still alive and kicking here's some pics to prove it!

how she does it, i have no idea but yesterday i almost stepped on our little crabby friend who was lurking by the bottom step of our stairs.

she figured out how to escape AGAIN!

she's very talented. we should be proud, but instead matt is just freaked and i'm just worried her little crabby adventures are going to end up killing her.

now i have to try extra hard to keep track of her but she makes it so dang difficult!

after a lot of searching this morning i finally found her newest hiding spot.

she blends in so perfectly!

and then at lunch time i found her like this.

maybe the mystery of how she's been escaping has been solved.

who knew she could climb up that flimsy little plant!

so our crab is pretty amazing but her talents are nothing compared to Padme, the circus pup.

one night Matt and i were having a lovely evening watching Primeval.

if you don't know about this show, don't feel bad or anything because most people don't.

it's very X-Files-esque but british and with dinosaurs.

i know, Matt and i are amazingly awesome.

so anyway, we're watching this totally awesome show and the main girl on it, Abby, is the bomb diggity!

she's all bad A and has a cool accent and a pet dino/lizard guy that is the cutest thing ever.

so as we're watching this show Matt turns to me and tells me he wants me to color my hair like Abby.

and i was like say whaaaaat? you're talking gibberish.

but he was dead serious and after a few weeks of mulling it over, here i am.

i love it! and Matt LOVES it! and now me and my puppy are twinners so it feels like it was meant to be.

i'm so glad Matt suggested i do this and i don't even care if people think it was a crazy insane change because THAT'S SO ME! 

i love change! i need change!

for so long i've been boring the heck out of myself and that can't happen anymore.

i've been spending more time exercising and being outside and feeling so much better about myself and about life so this huge change totally goes along with all that.

plus, i think it's funny that i shock myself every time i look in the mirror now!

we sold our treadmill and bought this little beauty and i am in LOVE!

since i'm lucky enough to have asthma i can't be on a treadmill for longer than a few minutes without almost dying but this baby let's me get a good workout without needing a trip to the hospital.

iPhone pics

since getting my iPhone i haven't been very good about taking pictures.

i think it's because my phones have always had really terrible cameras and i'm still trying to remember that this one is good!

i'm trying to get better though!

so lately this is what's been happening...

it's the worst thing in the universe when your baby is sick.

and when i say baby i mean my little Padme baby.

last thursday and friday she was acting really weird.

all tired and her eyes were really glossy/red and she went through most of the day without opening them and when she did she would just squint at everything.

i was immediately worried, like a good mama should be, and starting googling around to see what could possibly be wrong with her.

boy, was that a bad idea.

i started seeing all these scary things about how squinting and glossy eyes can mean she's going blind!

i talked to Matt and told him our pup needs to see a vet because if something really bad is going on i want to stop it before it gets worse.

the vet was so nice and let us come in the same day to get her checked.

she had all these horrible tests done to her eyes and i felt so bad for her.

she let the doctor stick things in her eyes and turn her eyes green (seriously weird).

she was such a champ though! she didn't even try to yank her head away or anything!

she's the best pup ever!

after all the crazy tests we found out she's a very healthy girl (yay!) and she didn't have anything serious but she does have conjuctivitis.

basically her eyes were hurting her a lot so the only thing she could do to make it stop was keep them closed as much as possible.

poor baby!

we were sent home with some eye medicine for her and the vet said she should be better in a few days.

she was so sad all night after the vet.

i babied the heck out of her to make up for it though.

now it's been 3 full days of the eye medicine and i think she's doing better.

she'll actually keep her eyes open now and i don't notice as much glossy eye-ness.

her eyes are still a little red but we have to continue the medicine for a while so i'm sure that'll go away soon.

i hated this whole ordeal probably just as much as she did.

i can only imagine what future me is going to be like when i have a real little person to take care of and they get sick.

i'm sure i'll be a wreck!

patience and presents

man, 2012 has been a doozy so far. 

apparently when i asked that 2012 help me grow as a person it didn't want to waste any time.

and it has also decided that my number one strength i need to practice is patience.
which is probably one of the most annoying things to practice ever ever ever ever.
before this i thought i was a relatively patient person.
 i would wait at a restaurant for the waitress to come by without getting upset or wait for my turn on the slide without shoving the other kids.
in my mind that means i'm patient.
but there are so many things going on right now and patience is kinda getting in the way of life and it's making me grumpy and worried and ughhhh.

so here i sit, pretending to be patient while my mind goes berserk thinking about all the things i could be doing if i could just know everything right now.
my level of stress couldn't be higher.
dang you 2012 and your patience-learning ways. 

in other news...
i haven't had a chance to tell the universe about our most amazing late Christmas presents.

the Kindle!!
i was lucky enough to get a large gift card to use on an item of my choosing and this is what i chose!
i'm sure most people will be surprised because i'm more the type to plop myself down in front of the tv rather than pick up a book but i seriously love this thing.
i've already read like 4 books and i've only had it a couple weeks.
i really think it makes me read faster. it has magical powers that can do that ya know.
so now anybody and everybody should give me book recommendations since i'm all smart and bookish now!

and our second amazing present...

iPhone 4s!
Matt has been begging for an iPhone since the day he found out about them and i've been the terrible grinchy wife who wouldn't let him get one.
well now i'm an angel sent from above because i bought him one!
BEST WIFE AWARD!
he got the black one and i got the white one and now we're busy iPhoning it up.
we got words with friends going on and everyone should start a game with me!

Christmas Recap

Christmas was amazing!!

i'm so glad i was able to finish all my ornament making and get things out in time for Christmas and then Matt and i were able to relax and enjoy some time together.
