lately
i have been super super busy lately making items to sell!
over the weekend i had a couple people request commission work from me so i've been a busy little girl with pattern making and fabric cutting and sewing sewing sewing!
matt and i have also been playing Draw Something nonstop!
this game makes me laugh so hard because my drawings are so completely horribly terribly bad.
and of course matt's look amazing.

you know you work from home when "getting dressed" only means you put on a nicer pair of sweatpants and a shirt you didn't sleep in the night before.

if you can ignore the fact that i'm dressed up in the best early christmas present ever ever ever, A PENGUIN ONESIE, then you can see the little ornaments all hanging on the tree including angry birds ornaments!

creatin'
i finished my work really early yesterday and decided to do some creatin'.
i love when that happens.
i made some cutie little ornaments like this guy!
i'm thinking about making a whole bunch more like these and opening up my etsy shop again.
hmmmmm...
making these put me in the most christmasy spirit.
i've been listening to christmas music today and begging Matt to let me put up our tree and decorations already.
he said we can't until after thanksgiving but i'm sure i'll wear him down.
also...what is it about mint M&Ms that makes them soooo delicious that i cannot stop eating them no matter how sick they make me??
somehow the bowl finds its way onto my desk and then while i'm working i just pop them in my mouth ALL THE TIME!
no bueno yet SO bueno.

The Making Of
so i wanted to show a little bit of how we made our ewok costumes this year.
remember when i told you mine was going to be made out of a twin size blanket?
i'm terrible at taking pictures to document my projects because i get on a roll and forget all about taking pictures but i have some.
we started by buying a pattern for a jumpsuit which i thought would be super duper helpful but instead it only reminded of how much i HATE HATE DOUBLE HATE patterns!
they never work for me.
i do much better when i make up my own thing.
so i started with the pattern and then ditched it along the way.
lots of sewing and trying on and sewing and trying on
and after a lot of sewing and a lot of getting mad at the stupid bleeping pattern and fixing what i hated about the stupid bleeping pattern i finished the biggest part of the costume.
then i had to put on the tummy piece.
again i went the cheap route and cut out a piece of fabric from a snuggie we found at the thrift store.
Padme thought i felt so fuzzy
so with the suit part of my costume complete i moved on to the hoods.
Matt wanted his hood to go around his arms and all the way down to his waist to cover up the fact that he was wearing a sweatsuit.
(he didn't want me to make him a full on ewok onesie like mine. weirdo.)
so we cut out face holes and measured and tried on and sewed and cut them to our liking.
and then i made ears and hand stitched those on top of the hoods.
and then all the hoods needed were the little leather stitches.
and we were done!
Matt also ended up making himself a tooth necklace and arrowhead with sculpey and leather straps so he would look extra ewok-y.
even though we didn't go all out with these costumes like last year's Toy Story ones i still think they're pretty amazing!
plus, i gave myself a big pat on the back for making my whole ewok onesie all by myself!
i really wasn't sure if i would be able to do it.
only downside to our costumes was that we were called all kinds of things throughout the night.
bears. kangaroos. puppies.
but the best thing i was called all night was Comfy Bear.
my nephew Trey told me i was so comfortable to hug that that's what i must be for halloween.
it's so true.
making my onsie out of a fleecy blanket was the best idea ever!

birthday pillows
lately we have been celebrating birthdays like crazy!
every weekend for the past couple months we've had a party to attend. it's insane!
i just wanted to show off the gifts i made for my niece and nephew.
Carissa turned 5 and is loving Hello Kitty right now so her gift was a Hello Kitty pillow.
and McKay turned 9 and is super into Captain America so here's his pillow.
both of them were a big hit!
Carissa told me she slept with her pillow and McKay was such a sweetheart and thanked me a million times for his.
i seriously have the cutest nieces and nephews ever!

dragons and unicorns
last week i worked my little bum off to make cute gifts for the kids in our sunbeam class because all of their birthdays were last week.
since the beginning of the year these kids have talked a lot about dragons and unicorns.
for every question it seems like the little boy will answer dragons and the twin girlies will answer unicorns.
what's your favorite animal?
what do you want to draw?
what kind of pet do you wish you had?
what kind of animals were put on earth?
what do you want to make with your playdough?
what animal do you want to pretend to be?
the answer is always the same: dragons and unicorns.
i thought i'd use that for their gifts since it's obviously very important to them.
i used this donkey tutorial as a starting point when i made the unicorns and then adjusted things from there.
aside from that tutorial being a little frustrating and confusing i think it got me on the right track to making these cute unicorns.
i didn't put the ears on my unicorns and obviously added the horn but everything else is basically from the donkey tutorial.
the eyes, the mane and the tail were the parts i had the most trouble with.
i'm not very experienced when it comes to working with embroidery floss.
we gave the girls their presents during church since they were the only kids we had in class that day and i was so happy because they LOVED the unicorns!
they got them out and immediately started running around the room making them eat things and run on the chairs and make funny noises.
it was so cute!
the dragon themed gift i went with was the dragon slippers i learned to make a few months ago.
when i made them before i modified them to be dino slippers though.
remember?
but this time i did full on dragon slippers.
we had traced the kids' feet a couple weeks before as part of our lesson so i kept the little boy's tracing and used it when i made the slippers for him.
i'm so tricky!
we took his present to his house and i think it's safe to say he liked them because he put them on almost immediately after opening them.
i made them a little big, like the tutorial suggests, so he can keep wearing them for a while.
we recently found out he's moving away to a place that stays cold longer than one month out of the year so hopefully those little dragons will keep his feet warm.
we're really gonna miss that little guy.
and now after all the sewing and present making i'm in the crafting mood.
what should i make next?

Hobbes
while i'm on a roll with this Christmas gift thing i've got one more.
my husband's favorite comic of all time is Calvin and Hobbes.
he was Calvin for Halloween a few years ago, i bought him the complete comic book collection a couple years back and he says we have to name our first son Calvin.
he loves it THAT much.
so this year for Christmas i wanted to give him a Hobbes stuffed animal and since they don't make them for people to buy (which is totally lame) i had to make it myself.
it took me for-e-ver since there's not really a pattern out there to make a Hobbes stuffed animal but i did it and i'm pretty happy with how he turned out.
here's the video of Matt opening his present.
when i told him i was making him something for Christmas he thought it would be something Star Warsy so he was surprised to find Hobbes waiting for him in that box.
for about two weeks straight i would wake up super early every morning and try to get all my work done by noon so i could work on Hobbes until Matt got home around 4:00.
i was ridiculously tired those two weeks but it was worth it.
he's made with fleece for extra softness and the stripes are felt.
he's super snuggly!
and Padme loves him too!
i did take pictures to make a tutorial but those pictures are on our old computer so i'll have to wait for the hubsy to put them on the new one.
but some day i'll do it.
