prego halloween
i really thought we wouldn't be able to give halloween the attention it deserves this year with all the work, school and baby-making that we have going on but i'm seriously so glad we did!
it's just not halloween unless the masons are making and wearing ridiculous costumes, amiright??
as it got closer and closer to halloween we still hadn't decided on a good costume idea that would allow both of us to be something awesome AND would show off this baby bump with style.
finally, as we sat and enjoyed a super incredibly delicious meal at Wendy's one night, we had the best costume brainstorming session ever!
and the idea was born!
and the best part? it took very little effort!
we're usually making our costumes for months but this literally only took a couple nights and a trip to the thrift store.
perfection!
so without further ado...
Ron Swanson and "All the bacon and eggs you have"
i'm really surprised by the lack of holiday parties that go on in this little college town but we did manage to sneak our way into our friends' ward party the night before halloween!
they ended up having a costume contest and the judge lady had us all cracking up when she saw our costumes.
first, she had no idea who matt was.
then she spent a good amount of time staring at me and then walked away only to do a double take at the last second and yell out "oh my gosh! it's a baby!"
apparently my egg yolk baby bump wasn't as obvious as i thought it was.
but i ended up winning the award for funniest costume!
the judge told me the baby won it for us so this counts as Marshall's first costume contest award!
is he our kid or what?!

heart attack
when's the worst time to lose your purse at the mall?
if your answer was "when you just cashed a check and your purse has $500 in it" you are correct!
yeah...that seriously happened to me today.
luckily i did some mad, crazy person running and made it back to the store i was just in and found it untouched!
luckily i did some mad, crazy person running and made it back to the store i was just in and found it untouched!
seriously the closest i've come to having a heart attack.
and also the closest i've come to shoplifting.
i was in another store holding a shirt when i realized i didn't have my purse and didn't even think when i started to mad, crazy person run out of the store with it.
don't worry, Matt was smart enough to notice and took it back for me.

no wonder I hate going to the mall, only bad things happen there!
so besides that little ordeal, today was a pretty awesome day!
Matt and i went thrifting for our Halloween costumes and hit the jackpot!
usually it takes us forever to find what we need but the thrifting Gods were on our side today and we found almost everything!

it probably helped that our costumes are much more low key this time.
we don't have the time for any huge extravagant costume making because of the shop and moving and all but i still love what we decided on!

on to the next one
last of the halloween pics!
ewoks with the nephews
Trey and "Comfy Bear"
ewoks with batman, robin, skeleton, peter pan, wendy and tinkerbell
the little shark "Fin"
i'm so sad halloween is over but i guess i'll move on to the next celebration.
Matt and i will be married for 5 years next week.
holy cow!
and to celebrate we're going on a little mini vacation and of course that means that i got sick this week.
i now have 2 days to get better. UGH!
dear sore throat, i hate your guts! you're the worst thing in the entire world! i hate being reminded of you every time i swallow!
so yesterday i decided to stick it to mr. sore throat and downed like 500 gallons of water (no joke), hot soup, nasty airborne tablets and Matt even brought home my secret sore throat weapon- caramel apple spice from starbucks.
seriously, every sore throat i've had since high school has been cured within days of consuming one of those delicious beverages.
then last night i took some nyquil and Matt tucked me in for a good night's sleep....NOT.
turns out even sick and full of nyquil i don't sleep but i still got up this morning and my sore throat is slightly less annoying than it was yesterday.
hallelujah! thank you caramel apple spice!
hopefully another 2 days of the exact same routine will cure me for a fun filled vacation.
now i'm gonna go make some lists.
i'm probably the only one who does this but i like to make a crazy number of lists before a trip.
don't want to forget anything ya know.
especially when you're gonna be within 5 minutes of a store.
i'm a weird person.

The Making Of
so i wanted to show a little bit of how we made our ewok costumes this year.
remember when i told you mine was going to be made out of a twin size blanket?
i'm terrible at taking pictures to document my projects because i get on a roll and forget all about taking pictures but i have some.
we started by buying a pattern for a jumpsuit which i thought would be super duper helpful but instead it only reminded of how much i HATE HATE DOUBLE HATE patterns!
they never work for me.
i do much better when i make up my own thing.
so i started with the pattern and then ditched it along the way.
lots of sewing and trying on and sewing and trying on
and after a lot of sewing and a lot of getting mad at the stupid bleeping pattern and fixing what i hated about the stupid bleeping pattern i finished the biggest part of the costume.
then i had to put on the tummy piece.
again i went the cheap route and cut out a piece of fabric from a snuggie we found at the thrift store.
Padme thought i felt so fuzzy
so with the suit part of my costume complete i moved on to the hoods.
Matt wanted his hood to go around his arms and all the way down to his waist to cover up the fact that he was wearing a sweatsuit.
(he didn't want me to make him a full on ewok onesie like mine. weirdo.)
so we cut out face holes and measured and tried on and sewed and cut them to our liking.
and then i made ears and hand stitched those on top of the hoods.
and then all the hoods needed were the little leather stitches.
and we were done!
Matt also ended up making himself a tooth necklace and arrowhead with sculpey and leather straps so he would look extra ewok-y.
even though we didn't go all out with these costumes like last year's Toy Story ones i still think they're pretty amazing!
plus, i gave myself a big pat on the back for making my whole ewok onesie all by myself!
i really wasn't sure if i would be able to do it.
only downside to our costumes was that we were called all kinds of things throughout the night.
bears. kangaroos. puppies.
but the best thing i was called all night was Comfy Bear.
my nephew Trey told me i was so comfortable to hug that that's what i must be for halloween.
it's so true.
making my onsie out of a fleecy blanket was the best idea ever!
