shark week top 3

let's talk some shark week shall we?
this year was kinda...meh.
a lot of "omg sharks are gonna eat you up!" and "hey we're telling really stupid jokes that NO ONE is laughing at!"
but let's not talk about the shows that were sucko, let's talk about the shows that were JAWSOME!
like my shirt that Matt bought me.
sharks are jawsome
it got here too late to be worn during shark week but really, i don't need shark week to wear this amazing shirt!

so the first episode i super liked was Return of Jaws.
return of jaws
if you like science that includes robots you'll love this episode!
they tag great whites and this robot follows the tag and gives them constant video of the sharky action.
if they can give that little robot a longer battery life it will totally change the way sharks are tagged and observed in the wild!

next we have Spawn of Jaws.
spawn of jaws
a really awesome episode of trying to find out where great whites mate and pup.
great whites have never been seen mating before. we have no idea where they go for a romantic time or where they go to give birth so figuring all this out will be a huge step to protecting those areas so great whites can repopulate.
also, paul walker. he's a fast and furious shark stud.

and last but certainly not least, Alien Sharks of the Deep.
megamouth shark
this episode was truly amazing!
most people have never seen sixgill, frill, goblin or megamouth sharks before and that's exactly what needs to be shown during shark week!
as cool as great whites, tigers and bull sharks are - they're not the only cool sharks out there!
this episode took you on a journey into the deep deep ocean and captured images of the sharks that are rarely ever seen.
and they got the first footage of a live megamouth shark!
discovery channel, show more like this please!

so now my favorite week of the year is over :(
good thing i recorded the episodes above so i can watch them over and over and over again.
and i would like to take this time to say to all the people that think all my shark talk is overkill...

wants sharks and spooks

i'm so glad it's friday friday gotta get down on friday! this week seemed to be an extra long one. every day i got a job to type up that was mucho terrible and Matt was hardly ever home or away from the computer. but now it's the weekend! yay!

lately i've been pretending we have money and making a list of things i'm drooling over that Matt needs to buy me. basically on the top of the list is the olloclip so we can be cool and take awesome pictures with our iphones.
  olloclip

i really love the look of the fisheye pictures! and i also need this iphone cover because...well because i'm a penguin lover and i MUST have it!

  penguin iphone case

we also started a shark tumblr this week! why? basically to come up with a sane reason for me to look at as many shark pictures as i already do. and guys, in only 4 days our shark tumblr has already acquired as many followers as i've acquired on my personal tumblr in 6 months. that is freaking insane! and this pic has already gotten over 1,000 likes and reblogs!

  shark feeding

i feel so happy that my little shark friends are so popular!
and just because i want to leave you with something to terrify you for days to come check out this gif that Matt made. at first i didn't think it was freaky but then i kept looking at how he's moving in the mirror but not in real life.

spoooooky!

HAPPY WEEKEND!

that one time we...

bought a puffer fish!!
a dwarf puffer fish to be exact and that's the day i fell in love with a fish.
gideon
isn't he the coolest?? we named him Gideon to go along with our Scott Pilgrim themed fish names.
we got him because i read that dwarf puffers can take care of snail problems in your tank.
and seriously, within minutes of putting little Gideon in the tank he was chowing down on those snails like nobody's business!
Matt and i watched and cheered as he ate snail after snail and his belly got all big and chubby!
P1020463
here's a video of him in action.
we've had a few people tell us that these puffers are meanies and will kill the other fish in our tank but since we have three red tailed sharks in there with him and they're pretty aggressive too everything seems to be a-okay.
the sharks don't even seem to notice him and he's too in love with his own reflection to notice them.
P1020448
he's seriously the coolest ever!

compliment

had my first compliment on my new shark shirt last night!
we were walking through costco and a little boy in the cart in front of us said to his dad "a shark! a shark! a shark in the water!"
which made his dad start looking around saying "what? what are you talking about?" while i gave the kid a little wave and a smile.
i forgive his dad for not realizing that my shirt was the amazingness his kid was reacting to.
thanks for making me feel cool little costco kid.
your love of sharks makes me think you will do great things in life.

shark attire

i have been so crazy busy this week i haven't even had a chance to post about my most favoritest week of all time.
that's right, it's...
shark_week-show
is everyone ready for this year's shark week attire?
last year i had the jammies and the shirt, both of which i still wear and love to pieces.
so it would just seem wrong to not keep the shirt making tradition alive.
Matt and i spent all last Saturday making shirts including this guy!
Shirt Making 032
awesome right?
I KNOW!
we used freezer paper to make the stencil instead of using our screen printer since we were only making one shirt.
it didn't come out totally perfect since it was our first time using the freezer paper but i still love it!

quick break down of the process.
we printed the image out on the freezer paper and Matt used his steady hand skillz to cut it out with an x-acto knife.
Shirt Making 003
then you place it veeeeery carefully on the shirt and iron it to stick it down.
Shirt Making 013
then you paint on the fabric paint and try to make sure the freezer paper doesn't pucker so the paint doesn't seep under and mess up the design.
do as many coats as needed.

wait for it to dry then peel off the freezer paper and put a cloth over and iron to seal.
Shirt Making 018
and voila!
Shirt Making 031
then you take a bunch of pictures of yourself with your new sharkie shirt and include your mustache decal on your mirror!

too awesome for words.
HAPPY SHARK WEEK EVERYONE!

Shark Friends

i love when my birthday continues a whole week after it actually happened.
Matt got the aquarium all set up on my actual bday and then a couple days later we bought a plant and a moss ball to go in it.
by the way, did you know how freaking cool moss balls are??
they're quite possibly my new favorite thing!
CIMG0367
they keep the tank clean and they're hilarious looking!
anyway...then we waited a couple more days and made a trip to Petsmart for these guys!
017
018
these are my new little shark friends!
019
we were extra careful with our new family members and made sure to float them in their bag for a whole hour before setting them free in their new home.
020
they were so excited and just couldn't wait to get out and explore.
021
after the hour we fished them out of the bag and let them swim free.
it is my pleasure to introduce you to Scott, Wallace and Young Neil.
033
026
039
CIMG0368
see i'm not the only one who likes the moss ball, Scott loves it too!
i can't believe we waited so long to get this aquarium running.
Matt and i love to waste our time sitting and watching our new friends!
024
and because of all that sitting and watching we now know that Scott is a giant bully (he's the biggest of the three) and poor little Wallace and Young Neil get chased by him CONSTANTLY!
and also that Wallace and Young Neil are very crafty and hide from Scott in the shell so he can't get to them or they swim through the plant in the back so he'll get stuck.
i guess that equals a pretty level playing field.

p.s. we didn't even realize that Matt was wearing his Gideon Graves shirt when we named our little sharks after Scott Pilgrim characters but i'm gonna take that as a sign that it was meant to be!
