this past weekend we got to take a little mini vacation to see Lucia get married and we had a blast!
with all of our stuff in the trunk and a cooler of drinks and giant bag of road snacks in the back
(yes we are little piggies when we go on road trips)
we started the very loooooong drive to Utah on thursday.
i like to drive on long trips because i find it incredibly boring to sit in the passenger seat.
Matt had fun watching Scott Pilgrim though.
and sleeping and reading me a Star Wars book and sleeping some more.
we decided to stay the night in Vegas to do some partying that night.
we stayed at the Luxor which i always wanted to stay at when i was little and we would go to Vegas every summer for our karate convention.
it was pretty awesome inside.
it had a very scary high view right outside of our room.
Matt was pulling a Ferris Bueller.
little note for anyone planning to stay at the Luxor one day, the elevators are a little weird you can feel them tilt sideways before they start moving and tilt back before the doors open which is totally crazy and made my head and tummy spin.and there's one elevator we rode on where the doors were shaking like mad and if there hadn't been a hotel employee in there with us who was acting totally normal i would've thought something was wrong and we were about to die.
true story.
we were starving once we finally got there and i'm pretty sure it's a rule that if you go to Vegas you have to eat at a buffet but we didn't want to spend a bazillion dollars per person on a casino buffet so we did a little google searching and found an awesome Chinese buffet nearby that only cost $10 a person.
and let me tell you, it was tasty!
the little sugar rolls are my favoriteeeeeeee!
after filling our bellies full of Chinese we hit the strip.
my brother, Steven, told us how much he loved these tilting towers so this picture is for him.
waiting very impatiently in the ridiculous heat for the fountains.
Mario and Luigi were in Vegas that night.
Matt and i saw so many people walking around with costumes on and people would take pictures of them.
apparently we need to bring our halloween costumes to Vegas so we can get people to take pictures with us and give us money.
it feels like we walked sooooo far down the strip and then all the way back to the Luxor and my feet were killing me.
i'm surprised i look happy in this picture because i was actually very grumpy from all the walking.
the only thing we wanted after making it back to the hotel was a drink so we went to McDonald's and got some sierra mist and french fries.
i don't think a sierra mist has ever tasted so good to me.
then we got our second wind and were ready for some gambling!
we gave ourselves $10 to play with and when it was gone, it was gone.
i've never gambled before so i wasn't really sure where to start but i knew for sure i wanted to play some slots because it's another rule, when you're in Vegas you have to play slots.
Matt told me i was dumb and he wanted to play video blackjack so that's what we started with.
he was very serious about it too.
gambling buddies!
so here's how my first gambling experience went.
Matt and i played blackjack and he lost all but 75 cents of our $10 then he told me i could play the quarter slots with that last 75 cents.
i then took that 75 cents and turned it into $28.
that's right! i'm the queen of playing slot machines!
Matt will never tell me i'm not allowed to play slots again.
here's proof when i had doubled our money!
and then Matt took my winnings back to the blackjack games and lost it all.
he definitely needs to watch the movie 21 again before we go back.
but we did make our $10 last two hours of gambling and had a great time!
we got back to our room, slept a few hours and then were up early the next morning to pack up the car and make the rest of the trip to Utah.
thanks for the good time Luxor!

Hmm, we didn't do any of the things you said you have to do while you're in Vegas. Apparently next time we go, we need to go with the Masons and do Vegas up right!!
