hootie pillow

last week on thursday the lovely Christine and i took a trip to Goodwill for dollar day.
it's seriously a genius idea if you come on the right week.
Christine got 3 cool things for 3 little bucks.
dollar day was not my friend that day so instead i ended up with only 2 things for like 8 bucks.
laaaaaaaaaame.
but one of the things i found was a cute shirt with hooties all over it but it was about 20 sizes too small for me.
but i just couldn't put it down!
the pattern is just too awesome!
so i decided to get it so i could cut it up and make a pillow!

first i cut the sleeves and collar off the shirt and then cut it down the side to make two pieces.
then i had to do some weird maneuvering because the big hootie and stars design was really close to the collar.
it made me pretty mad for a bit because it just wouldn't behave and i had to decide to lose a little bit of one of the stars but i still think it came out great!
it's cute and little and just perfect for halloween!
plus it's ridiculously soft since it's made out of a t-shirt.
Padme loves it!
probably because it's just her size!

thank you Man Vs. Food!

saturday was an epic day for Matt.
we love love love watching the show Man Vs. Food on the travel channel and love love love even more trying to go to the places that Adam Richman has eaten at.
in fact, when we took our trip to Portland last year our number one priority was hitting 2 of the places that Adam went.

Voodoo Doughnut

Matt got the famous Voodoo doughnut and i got an oreo one which was gross so i sneaked bites of Matt's gooey delicious voodoo!

this place is one of those places that earns the term "wonderfully weird."
and if the workers didn't make you feel like a total moron for asking what kind of doughnut that one in the case was it would be the best doughnut shop in the world!

and the Stepping Stone Cafe.
they're famous for their gigantic stack of mancakes but there's no way i was going to attempt to eat those bad boys.
i'm just not that hard core.

but this place was incredible!
their slogan is "you eat here because we let you".
it had that diner feel that i would imagine you would feel if you could go to Luke's Diner from Gilmore Girls.
and to me they will always be famous for their AMAZINGLY SCRUMDIDLYUMPTIOUS hot chocolate!
in a mug that i honestly thought about stealing.

both suggestions came from the great Adam Richman and we salute him for his impeccable taste.
which brings me back to Saturday.
Adam's impeccableness does it again.

Los Reyes de la Torta
in english means heavenly mexican food that is way too far away from our home.
on Man Vs. Food, Adam talks about the Torta Del Rey which is a burger filled with fried beef, ham, egg, chorizo, hot dogs, cheese, avocado and who knows what else!

oh and they weigh it in at over 2 1/2 pounds.

and who conquered those 2 1/2 pounds??
MATT DID!
picture or it didn't happen?
okay!

first Matt sized up his opponent.
let it know who's boss.
and then he murdered it!

all 2 1/2 pounds of it!

was he excited about his achievement?
yes.
was he excited about his achievement about 2 hours later?
no.
apparently what Man Vs. Food doesn't tell you is that you will be hurting and not able to eat anything else for the rest of the day if you finish the Torta Del Rey.
but when i asked Matt if it was worth it he said ohhhhhhh yeah!
and he's already made plans to return again with my brother.
crazy boy.

RIP diving girl sign

so Arizona practically never ever gets rain but when it does it's CRAZY!
so this big storm swoops in earlier today and goes on for about 30 minutes and in that time we get giant hail, sideways rain, floods and strong enough wind to uproot trees and power poles and send them flying into streets, fences, homes, cars, etc.

but worst of all, that dang wind took down something near and dear to every person in Mesa.

(stole this pic from Gabby)

the diving girl motel sign.
it's a tragedy beyond all other tragedies!
i think everyone, including myself, has joked about one day staying at the diving girl motel.
of course it's only a joke because you practically get a disease just looking at the place.
BUT STILL!!!
i'm almost wanting to go over there and set up a road side memorial for the poor diving girl.
we owe her that much after all the years she's given us.
hopefully she'll be resurrected soon and we will see her glowing in the night again but until then...
RIP diving girl sign.
i love you.

cold weather makes me smile

this morning i remembered the real reason we have a blanket on our bed.
apparently it's not just there to get kicked to the edge because it's too dang hot but actually to warm you when you wake up on a cloudy morning and it's a little chilly.
huh.
i can't wait 'til the day comes when i have to keep an extra blanket on the bed because Matt will steal the one we have and i will freeze to death if i'm not prepared.

winter, can you please come faster?
i'm ready for blanket stealing fun and hoodies and socks and opening the windows in my house and making Padme wear her sweatshirt and cider, etc.
please come right now!

procrastination = purses

Saturday was a busy busy day for us!
our favorite holiday is fast approaching so all our spare time is filled up with finishing our Halloween costumes.
so that's what we did alllllllllllllll Saturday.
Matt banished himself to the garage and i heard a lot of banging and screeching and whirring going on.
and i stayed inside to sew some things.
for some reason Matt and i started working on each other's costumes without really thinking about it so apparently that's how it's going to work this year.
we're not making our own costumes, we're making each other's.

Matt did a lot of good work!
he kept bringing in different things for me to try on and test out and yadda yadda.
and i did a great job too!
a great job of procrastinating!
instead of making the articles of clothing i was supposed to make for Matt's costume i made these!

purses!
i'm very proud of them!
i've never made a purse before and i think these came out perfect!
even my grandma who is a sewing wizard told me they look very professional!
and i consider that a HUGE compliment!

i started with the tree/birdy one.

the outside is that bird fabric and the inside is black.
there's a zipper pocket on the inside too because every girl knows you have to have one of those!
that was actually the hardest part of the whole project.

and after i made the birdy purse i really wanted to make one with mine and Matt's little symbol.
i sewed the little people and the heart on first (which was a super pain until i figured out what i was doing) and then constructed the purse.
i'm in love with it!

awww aren't we the cutest little stick figures in the whole wide world??

so now i guess i have to finish Matt's costume pieces sometime this week.
curse my procrastinating!

halloween is coming!!

my favorite holiday is coming up and i am PSYCHED!
all the halloween decorations are now out around the house and it looks amazing!
it really puts me in a dress up/begging for candy kind of mood.
and all i want to do is go around to different stores and look at their decorations.
but honestly, we do NOT need more halloween decorations.
since it's my fave i spent a good deal of my time at our store painting halloween things and now my house is being taken over by halloween pottery.

this little guy is the best! i always wanted a permanent jack-o-lantern and he is definitely the cutest!

this frankenstein cup is seriously one of my favoritest pottery pieces ever!

matt's favorite halloween decoration: the zombie storm trooper bobble head.

little girl dressed as a witchy witch!

funny candy corn face!
cute little love ghosts!
who says halloween has to be scary?

i just realized i kinda have a thing for cute ghosts.

and of course we have decorations that aren't pottery too.

i'm beyond in love with this candy monster blanket!
i should really keep it out all year long.

again with the cute ghosts.
i'm a sucker for them!

so everyone should just be aware, if you come to my house you will be overwhelmed by the halloween spirit that now lives here.
consider yourself warned.

my boring life

man, it's been for-e-ver since i last wrote on here.
some might think it's because i've been so busy i just haven't had the time.
that i've been slaving away and just can't spend a moment to jot something down.
well...not really.
it's really because i spent all August sick as a dog and no one wants to hear about that.
and now my life is boooooring.
matt is busy at night being the perfect little student.
he works all day and then comes home and does homework all night leaving me to entertain myself after i finish my own work.
and how do i entertain myself?
let me count the ways.

1. by playing hours upon hours of angry birds.
it's so addicting it's ridiculous!

2. sewing a cute pillow to sit on our couch.

3. sewing a black bear to sit in our outdoorsy room.

and last night i started a puzzle while watching Friends.
now people, does it get any more boring than that??
no, i believe it doesn't.
i need a new sewing project!
at least that was SOMETHING!
maybe i'll look for holiday things to make.
not that we don't already have a million decorations for halloween and christmas.
i just need something to doooooo!
